Ireland Water Conservation Order: Updates

Pettigo added; Cooley Peninsula and North Kildare checked at source and not listed

Uisce Éireann's Water Conservation Hub lists overnight restrictions on the Pettigo Public Water Supply in Donegal (10pm to 7am), which we have added, and publishes the areas served by the Listowel Regional scheme in Kerry (Listowel Town, Moyvane, Knockanure, Tarbert, Lisselton and Ballyduff), which we have populated. We also checked two areas named by Uisce Éireann's regional operations manager on RTÉ on 11 July: the Cooley Peninsula in Louth, and North Kildare (Allenwood and Prosperous, quoted as roughly 12 hours from 6pm to 6am). Neither is a published night-time restriction on water.ie. The Cooley notice on water.ie is an unplanned mechanical fault at Rath Reservoir dated 22 March 2026 and since resolved; North Kildare was a one-off shutdown at Allen Reservoir from about 6pm on Saturday 11 July, with supply resuming about 6am on Sunday 12 July and Uisce Éireann then reporting levels returning to normal. Neither appears on the hub, so neither has been added: we list a supply only where Uisce Éireann publishes its own areas and hours. Separately, we re-checked the Order's Wexford wording. Uisce Éireann's own Order notice says “parts of Wexford” and does not use the word “coastal”, so our Wexford page keeps “parts of”.

Night-time restrictions tracker launched; the supply list spans 13 counties

We rebuilt our night-time restrictions page as a supply-level tracker, capturing every entry on Uisce Éireann's Water Conservation Hub: each supply with its own overnight hours (they genuinely differ, from 8pm to 8am in parts of Donegal and Sligo to 11pm to 6am on Inis Oírr), its areas served, dates and status. The Fethard (Tipperary) restriction is recorded as ended on 15 July; Dungarvan's hours change to 11.30pm to 7am from 19 July; parts of Clare have an assessment scheduled for Monday 20 July.

Night-time restrictions widen as the Order takes effect; further Orders actively considered

As the Water Conservation Order took effect, Uisce Éireann continued adding overnight supply restrictions, including Inis Oírr (11pm to 6am) from Thursday 16 July. The utility said further Water Conservation Orders are being actively considered for other areas where supplies are under significant pressure.

Ireland Water Conservation Order cluster published

We published our coverage of the Water Conservation Order ahead of it taking effect at 00:01 on 16 July 2026. The Order covers all of Dublin and parts of Kildare, Meath, Wicklow, Wexford and South Tipperary until 26 August 2026.

Overnight restrictions added across Galway, with Offaly already restricted

Uisce Éireann introduced night-time restrictions for Leitir Móir, An Cnoc and Tír an Fhia (11pm to 7am) from Tuesday 14 July, followed by Athenry, Clarinbridge, Kilcolgan and Ballinderreen (9pm to 7am) from Wednesday 15 July. Supplies in Offaly (Tully, Rahan and Lisduff) had been restricted from Monday 13 July. Each supply carries its own hours on Uisce Éireann's Water Conservation Hub.

Uisce Éireann makes the Water Conservation Order

Uisce Éireann announced a Water Conservation Order for Dublin, South Tipperary and parts of Kildare, Meath, Wexford and Wicklow, effective 00:01 on 16 July 2026 until 23:59 on 26 August 2026, after an exceptionally warm and dry spell pushed Greater Dublin demand to around 693 million litres a day.
